The following section explains What is Domain Name.

Evidently, each computer available on the Internet has a unique IP address. When we host a website, its server also has an IP address. So, we can access the website using that IP address. However, it is nearly impossible to remember the IP addresses of all the websites that we wish to access. Hence, Domain Name System (DNS) came into existence.

Basically, a domain name identifies a physical machine. Whereas, the Domain Name System (DNS) governs the rules and procedures for creating domain names. There are several categories of domain names. For example, (i) generic domain names (com, gov, org, net, and so on (ii) country-wise domain names (in, us, au, za), etc.
